If you put your hand right behind the DVD drive on the back of the case, you'll probably notice another warm spot. And that ventilation slot, not to mention the aluminum case, are allowing some of the heat to be bled off passively so the fans don't need to run.

It extends up maybe 2 inches past the DVD drive, which internally is actually about an inch longer than the slot on the case.
